The Big Question

Attendance is not a requirement in private English schools. Students are free to skip the class almost as they please. After all, what is there to worry about if they drop a private school? The answer is “almost nil,” and this is the cause of the great question of how serious teachers should be. Concerned teachers in private institutions are constantly caught between the two choices of education or entertainment. If they are always serious they will scare students away, which is employers' nightmare. If they are always entertaining, this may inflict self-damaging to their professional credibility. After being exposed to this difficult situation for three decades, my choice is to be a serious teacher with a hint of entertainer.  -NS
