If your classes are in Tokyo, you use the train to go to your classes. Cars are a nuisance in the super crowded city, and it has advanced train networks.

Let's say you are waiting for a train at a train station. Your train comes and you wait for the passengers to come out to the train station platform. You see a non-Japanese person in the passengers, and give a quick nod. If the person nods back to you, you know the person is new to Japan.
